SAF saves a family from becoming homeless

Amarjit Singh, a poor Sikh father from Guru Ki Nagri (Amritsar Sahib), was on the brink of homelessness. With his three sons and daughter, he lived in a tiny 28-gaj house while struggling to pay off a crushing mortgage. In 2003, he took out a 220,000 RS loan to secure shelter for his family, but the debt quickly became an overwhelming burden. Without help, his family faced losing their home—a devastating reality for any parent. Thanks to SAF International, this family was saved from homelessness.

A Family Trapped in Debt

None of Amarjit Singh’s children are married. Satnaam Singh (39), the eldest son, has worked alongside his father for years. He explained, “Time passed so quickly that I never even thought about marriage. I spent most of my life trying to pay off the mortgage. We barely survive, and I couldn’t bring someone else into this poverty.”

Their sister, Charnpreet Kaur, remains unmarried. Amarjit Singh, with tears in his eyes, shared, “No one wants to marry her because of our difficult living conditions and deep poverty.”

The Struggles of Daily Life

Amarjit Singh is a hardworking and honest man who sells small household items from a cart on the roadside. Unfortunately, despite his efforts, he and his son earn only 5,000 RS per month. This barely covers groceries, electricity bills, and medical expenses.

For twelve years, they struggled to repay their loan, but after years of sacrifice, they had managed to pay off only 45,500 RS of the principal. The financial stress left them mentally exhausted and deeply distressed. The fear of homelessness loomed over them every day.

How SAF Saved the Family from Homelessness

After assessing the family’s dire situation, SAF International stepped in to help. With the support of the Sangat, the organization paid off the remaining 1.79 Lakh loan, ensuring that the family would no longer face the threat of homelessness.

Now, the family is completely debt-free. Amarjit Singh can finally plan for his children’s future without financial worries. His son can marry without guilt, and his daughter now has hope for a better life.

This family, once on the verge of losing their home, now has a new beginning—free from debt, fear, and uncertainty.
